Journalism
David honed his writing and visual imaging skills during nearly two decades at such news media outlets as:
- The Associated Press
- Boston Record American
- Boston Herald American
- The Providence Journal-Bulletin
- WBOC-radio and TV, Maryland.
During those years, he held positions as correspondent, reporter, features editor, financial news editor, photo editor, bureau chief and assistant news director. David covered stories ranging from weather, fires and automobile accidents through the civil rights struggle, early space launches and the intricacies of financial news. Regularly covered beats included academia and such industries as fashion jewelry manufacture, banking and real estate.
"My primary task as a journalist," he explained, "was to make the story understandable to the general public - to translate the jargon of various industries and professions into easily understood English."

Public Relations
In 1982, David joined Eastern Utilities Associates, an electric utility holding company in southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island, as communications coordinator. Here, too, he viewed his task as "one of translation, converting the sometimes intricate vocabulary of engineering, financial and legal professionals into everyday English for you and me."
His assignments during 18+ years with Eastern Utilities included:
- Media Relations: Point person for media contact on a corporate level; supervisory responsibilities over local public information personnel as appropriate.
- Financial Relations: Prepared quarterly and annual reports to shareholders; prepared and distributed financial news releases; prepared speeches and presentations for Chief Executive Officer.
- Crisis Communications: Created the company's extensive Crisis Communications Plan, which was held up as a model by utility regulators; was responsible for maintaining it and implementing it when necessary.
- Photography and Video: Executive portraiture, worksite photojournalism.
- Public Spokesperson: An active member of the company's speakers' bureau, which addressed utility-related matters in presentations to local audiences.
Photography
David's early freelance and journalistic photography experience grew into the wedding/social function/portrait photography business he has conducted for more than a quarter century. He is a recommended photographer/videographer at many Eastern Massachusetts function halls. David was a charter member of Wedding and Event Photographers International.
Justice of the Peace
David calls his appointment as a Justice of the Peace qualified to solemnize marriages in Massachusetts a "natural marriage of my public speaking and wedding photography experience. As a photographer, I've been involved in weddings covering the full gamut of religions; I noted that many parts of the ceremony are the same, no matter the tradition."
He coined the term "multifaith," calling it "much more inclusive than the word 'interfaith' when referring to couples of differing religious backgrounds. I try to help brides and grooms create a ceremony that includes elements important to both families, especially elements that are common between the two religions involved."
